论文摘要: 本文从探讨我国传统汉英词典编写方法的局限性入手,就如何利用名家的翻译材料建设平行语料库,以及如何利用因特网信息资源建立对比语料库,进一步提高汉英词典词目翻译质量等诸多问题,展开了论述。本文认为,衡量一部汉英词典词目译义质量优劣的标准,首先是看词典编者是否收集了大量的双语语言材料,建成一定规模的双语语料库。但是要提高语料库的使用效率,词典编者必须做到在语料的收集过程中具有精确的目的性,建成一个“双语词库”。而“于不疑处有疑”、“大胆怀疑,小心求证”,这种自古流传下来的科学研究方法,对于我们编辑和使用“双语词库”中的语料,不乏借鉴意义。 通过对自建小型平行语料库以及对比语料库中语料的观察,以汉英词典中文化局限词及科技和百科术语的翻译为例,本文详细论述了两种语料库在汉英词典编写中所表现出的积极作用。其结论验证了钱厚生先生的那句话,“真正贴切的对应词大都存在于好的翻译材料之中,值得大力搜寻”。 同时,本文还指出了这两种语料库,尤其是平行语料库在汉英词典编纂中表现出的不足,如,语料库中语料的代表性以及语料的来源等问题。本文指出,虽然这两种语料库有这样或那样的缺点,但这两种语料库是汉英词典编者不可或缺的帮手。为了做到扬长避短及充分利用平行语料库给词典编者所带来的好处,本文作者提出了一个建设“双语词库”的设计方案。本文还阐释了这个“双语词库”的优点,如,这样一个“双语词库”既能够扩大语料的收集范围,又能节省词典编者输入语料的时间,财力及物力。 为了利于词典编者进一步提高这样一个“双语词库”的收词质量,本文提出了一个具体阅读计划,以利于词典编者手工采集语料。 本文还就如何使用这样一个“双语词库”,提出了具体方案。本文指出,为了进一步提高汉英词典的词目翻译质量,有效地使用“双语词库”中的语料,就要做到“于不疑处有疑”;“大胆怀疑,小心求证”。本文通过实例,论述了我国这种传统的科学方法,在汉英词典编写中所展示出的生命力。本文还指出,这种科学方法的有效使用,不仅依靠的是双词典编者的双语技能,还依靠他们的文化知识以及语言学理论知识。
