托妮·莫里森是第一位获得诺贝尔文学奖的非裔美国女性作家。作为一名黑人女性,她总在作品中探索非洲传统文化。本文将分析《索罗门之歌》和《柏油娃》中的非洲传统文化特色。论文首先分析了三个具体的文化特色:非洲传统宗教,非洲神话和口头传统;接下来从文化角度分析了两部小说中的四个代表性人物:《索罗门之歌》中的奶娃和派拉特,《柏油娃》中的雅丹和森。奶娃和雅丹都是先和本族文化脱离然后又迫切需要并重新回归到非洲传统文化;派拉特和森都完全接受并继承了非洲传统文化的价值观和文化遗产。通过对这两部小说的分析,不难看出莫里森作为非裔美国人试图为同族在白人主导的美国社会找到真正身份和更好地生活方式。继承传统文化并立足美国现状是莫里森为非裔美国人在现代社会中生存寻找到的方向。
