近年来,在英语教学中,文化教学逐渐变成了教学热点之一。各种英语教材的编纂者也致力于将这一热点体现在教材中,因为在各种教学活动中教材起着非常关键的提纲挈领的作用。本文将对目前各大院校使用较多的一套教材《新视野大学英语》中的文化因素进行调查,希望可以给以后的教材编者以更多的建议和借鉴的标准。本文首先从理论上探讨了大学英语教材中文化内容的编写目标,认为:(1)大学英语教材中的文化内容应以培养学生跨文化交际能力尤其是文化整合能力、评价能力和反思能力为目标,应有利于学生作为人的成长; (2)大学英语教材的编写应有利于知识、行为及态度等各层面的跨文化交际能力的培养;(3)大学英语教材的编写应有利于帮助学生避免文化定势并提高自主学习能力;(4)大学英语教材的编写应有利于语言文化教学的融合。论文从以下三个方面进行调查:(1)课本和教师用书中文化内容的研究;(2)老师和学生对《新视野大学英语》中文化内容的使用意见;(3)老师和学生对文化内容方面知识的需求。首先,作者对《新视野大学英语》学生及教师用书中的文化内容进行定量分析,所使用的调查工具是Byram的教材评价标准(主要针对文化内容)。作者按照他的这个标准来收集和列举教材中的文化内容,试图辨别和划分其中的文化内容,从而发现这套教材中文化内容编排的优缺点。然后,作者对使用该教材的师生进行了文化内容评估调查和需求分析,所使用的调查工具是由Paloma Castro等人设计的两份问卷调查,在对问卷数据分析是使用的是SPSS软件。结果表明:(1)《新视野大学英语》教材中的文化内容以美国文化为主;(2)该教材中文化内容的编排缺乏清晰的文化主线;(3)该教材偏重语言教学目标,相对忽略双向文化交际视角;(4)应增加教材编者对课文的文化视角的点评,提高学生对刻板印象的警惕意识;(5)大多数师生对该教材的文化内容不甚满意;(6)师生存在的一个共同问题是重视语言学习目标而轻视文化学习目标,重知识层面的文化学习而轻行为、态度层面的文化学习;(7)师生没有足够意识文化定势的不良影响。在此研究基础上,本文对该教材的文化内容提出了相应的改进意见,希望可以给教材编者提供有用的建议和参考。
