TheHappinessBarometer,conductedin16countriesacrosstheglobe,wasbasedontheCoca-ColaHappinessIndex,whichsurveyedbetween500to1,000peoplepercountry.
Almosttwo-fifths,or40percent,ofthosesurveyedsaidcatchingupwiththeirlovedonesafterworkwasthehappiesttimeoftheirday,whilemorethan20percentsaidtheywerehappiestwheneatingwiththeirfamilies.Bycontrast,only5percentsaidtheywerehappiestwhenconnectingwithfriendsonline,andevenless--2percent--saidthefirsttextmessageofthedaymadethemjoyful.
Familiesandpartnerswere,byfar,thebiggestsourceofhappinessforalmost80percentofthosesurveyed,withfriendscomingupnextat15percent.
“Despiteourcelebritydrivencul-ture,fameisnotlikelyinitselftobeaprimarysourceofhappiness.Instead,realhappinessdependsonourconnectingwithpeople,especiallythroughloveandkindness,”thestudysaid.
Hugsandfoodalsomadealotofpeoplehappy,especiallyinBritainandRussia,wherealmostathirdofpeoplesaidtheyarelikelytofindcomfortinahugorseekitinfood.
