隐喻翻译的认知阐释 ——鲁迅小说英译个案研究

论文摘要

作为认知科学的两大理论,概念隐喻理论和概念整合理论在隐喻研究中具有强大的解释力。比较发现,两者关注隐喻的不同方面,互为补充。因此,本文结合各自特点,运用概念隐喻解释常规隐喻的翻译,概念整合理论则用来解释新隐喻的翻译。在译本选择方面,鲁迅先生的小说思想深刻,富含隐喻,而杨宪益、戴乃迭夫妇作为翻译大家,其译文高度忠实于原文,颇受好评,因此,以他们翻译的鲁迅小说作为研究对象具有重要的实践意义和参考价值。论文结合《呐喊》、《彷徨》英译本,根据翻译研究的描写路径,首先将小说中隐喻分为常规隐喻和新隐喻两大类,每大类下分别包括本体隐喻、方位隐喻和结构隐喻,这样便构成了一个隐喻体系。在此基础上,分析统计结果,剖析例证,考查每一类别隐喻的翻译策略,总结隐喻翻译的规律,进而运用概念隐喻理论中的双域映射和概念整合理论中的四位空间投射分别对常规隐喻和新隐喻的翻译过程进行阐释,最后总结出翻译的一般认知过程。结论认为,翻译过程包括解读原文与创建译文两大过程,概念隐喻的基本映射贯穿其中,概念整合则提供动态、创造性整合,不断优化译文。运用认知语言学理论和实证方法考察隐喻的翻译,不仅可以为隐喻翻译提供理论依据,也可以提供切实可行的实践操作,无疑为鲁迅小说的翻译研究提供了新的视角,将有助于深化对隐喻翻译以及一般翻译的机制和本质的认识。
