The microstructure of Ti78-xNb22Dyx alloys consists of matrix(β phase and α″ martensite) and Dy-rich precipitates. The hardness can be increased with adding an appropriate amount of Dy. The elastic modulus decreases gradually with the increase of Dy fraction.

Abstract

The effects of adding rare-earth element Dy on the microstructure, hardness, and elastic modulus of Ti78-xNb22Dyx(x=0.7, 2, and 5) alloys were investigated experimentally. The microstructure of Ti78-xNb22Dyx alloys consists of matrix(β phase and α″ martensite) and Dy-rich precipitates. The hardness can be increased with adding an appropriate amount of Dy. The elastic modulus decreases gradually with the increase of Dy fraction.
