论文摘要
刻画人物性格,塑造人物形象是小说创作的技巧之一。小说中人物的个性化语言可以成功表现人物性格和人物形象。翻译是两种语言之间的转换。通过对人物对话的理解,译语读者能否解读和原语一致的人物形象,直接影响着译文的翻译质量。中国古典名著《红楼梦》中人物的语言没有脱离他们自己身份的。王熙凤是《红楼梦》中个性明显的重要人物,历来受到学者的关注。本文以系统功能语言学的三大纯理功能之一,即人际功能为理论基础,通过对红楼梦及其英译本(霍克斯,闵福德译本)的分析对王熙凤个性化语言的翻译作一探讨性研究。功能语言学是现代语言学两大流派之一,注重语言的社会性研究。人际功能是用来反应人与人之间的关系,具有表达讲话者的身份、地位、态度、动机以及对事物的推断等功能,或是反应说话人与听话人之间的社会地位和亲疏关系。人际功能主要由语气,情态及评价系统等实现。韩礼德把决定语言使用的情境分为三类(语场、语旨、语式),而决定人际功能的是语旨。本文将从三各方面分析王熙凤的语言并看译文是否与原文中所反应的王熙凤的地位,性格及特殊的时间场合相一致。以人际意义为理论框架,通过对霍克斯译本中王熙凤话语的分析,本文试图表明:译文是通过何种手段来忠实的反应了原文要反应的人际意义,即在交际过程中话语参与者如何通过对话实现交际的目的、意图,符合特定的时间场合,符合自己的身份地位和人物性格,从而深刻刻画王熙凤这样一个善于把握与对话者的人际意义来实现成功交际的形象。
