从顺应论角度看《围城》的翻译

论文摘要

作为“中国近代最好的两部小说之一”,钱钟书先生的《围城》因为其独特的讽刺喜剧风格深受不同年代读者喜欢。凯利和茅国权的译本作为第一个面世的英译本,自出版以来就激起了国内外学者和译者的兴趣。不同学者和译者从不同角度对《围城》的英译本进行研究并评价其得失,但是这些研究大多是微观层面的,主要对《围城》翻译的语言和文化等方面进行研究,比如探讨其中的隐喻翻译、习语翻译等等。到目前为止,还很少有对《围城》的翻译的全面系统的研究,因此本文作者借助顺应论这个理论框架尝试从一个相对全面的角度来研究《围城》的翻译。顺应论是维索尔伦在1999年提出来的一个理论,被称为是“一个非常具有解释力和应用价值和发展前途的语用学理论,因为它从一个全新的视角去理解和阐释当今的语用学”I（何自然,于国栋,1999:428-435）。这个理论的核心是语言使用是一个动态顺应的过程。顺应论的四个研究维度是:语境关系顺应,语言结构顺应,动态顺应和顺应过程中的意识程度。这四个维度很好地契合动态的语言使用过程中的语言、社会、文化和认知因素,因此顺应论被应用来研究翻译这个复杂的语言使用过程。本文借助顺应论来研究译者在翻译过程中如何动态顺应不同因素并做出最终选择,旨在研究翻译现象及其本质并证明顺应论对翻译具有强大的解释力。本文包括引言、正文（四章）和结论部分。引言部分介绍了本研究的背景、目的和全文的结构。第一章介绍了顺应论。第二章是基于顺应论的翻译研究,指出翻译过程实际上是译者有意无意地选择顺应的过程。第三章介绍了《围城》及其作者钱钟书,《围城》的英译本和两位译者,并介绍了学者和翻译家之前对其英译本的研究。第四章以《围城》为个案,借用顺应论的框架,分析了译者在翻译过程中如何动态顺应不同因素做出选择以实现其翻译目的。结论部分对全文进行了总结。本文在顺应论的框架下来研究《围城》的翻译,指出翻译实际是在翻译目的指导下,译者在不同意识程度下动态地对语境关系及语言结构等层面做出顺应选择的语言转换和文化传递的过程。在此过程中,译者为实现翻译目的不断作出顺应选择。翻译中的绝大多数问题在顺应论框架下能得到很好的解释,因此顺应论对翻译有很强的解释力。
