随着改革开放的进一步深化,中国加入世贸组织的成功以及经济全球化的影响日趋明显,商务信函在国际贸易中起着越来越重要的作用。因此,商务信函的翻译至关重要。商务信函,作为商务活动的主要交流工具,若翻译恰当,将促进贸易,相反则导致贸易纠纷。目的论在20世纪90年代传入中国,在此后的20年间,尤其是1999年后,学者们开始发表从各个角度探讨目的论方面的学术文章。尽管目前对于目的论的理论和实践的研究之多,但传统的重实践而轻理论的做法对商务信函翻译研究产生了某种阻碍性的影响。尽管有长期以来的实践操作,但中国商务信函的理论探索还相对滞后,目前已有的相关方法不尽适用于商务信函翻译。国内外对商务信函的研究可谓方兴未艾,但大多数研究仅停留在单纯的语言特征或修辞手段等一些表面特征上。传统翻译理论已无法适应商务信函翻译的客观要求,因此在充分理解中西文化差异的基础上对其翻译策略作出适当的调整就显得很有必要了。本文从目的论视角出发,将目的论、文化因素、商务信函翻译三者相结合,提出了商务信函翻译要重视翻译技巧及目标文本在其文化中的功能。中国对于商务信函的理论研究不完善,作者通过目的论的理论分析,总结目的论对商务信函翻译的适用性及其对商务信函翻译行之有效的翻译原则:对等、专业和通顺。同时本文也指出了在这一特殊领域的翻译方法以及译者在翻译过程中应注意的事项。
