从汉英亲属称谓对比探讨文化翻译的策略

翻译是一种通常会涉及两种语言，两种不同文化的活动。受到近年来世界文化交流多元化的影响，翻译研究的重点也逐步转向对文化因素的关注。两种语言对比的差异不仅表现在语言学层面上，同时也有文化层面的差异。译者在翻译过程中应当注意到这一点，否则有可能会陷入“文化陷阱”中，从而影响翻译所传达内容的准确性。在文化翻译中会涉及许多问题，而本文之所以选择对亲属称谓的翻译进行探讨，是由于亲属称谓作为语言的一个部分，承载了大量的文化信息，尤其是汉语中的亲属称谓，受到几千年积淀下来的社会文化影响，形成了一整套完备的称谓体系，它不仅反映了中国社会崇尚礼仪的文化传统，同时也体现了统治中国两千多年的家国同构的封建宗法制度及其传统的“以和为贵”的思想。而在英语中，由于资产阶级“自由”“平等”“民主”的思想深入人心，人们强调自我，张扬个性，而且西方以核心家庭为主，亲属关系淡漠，只有父子母女之间的关系比较清晰，其他的亲属关系非常笼统而且含糊。因此文章对亲属称谓的翻译所采用的方法进行了探讨。在翻译界，归化和异化是文化翻译的两种重要方法，这两种方法是密不可分的，互补的。在具体翻译中，必须对立统一的运用它们。对于亲属称谓的翻译，尤其是将汉语的亲属称谓语译入英语的过程中，为了要达到文化传播的目的，更多的提倡异化的翻译方法，这也正是本文所要实证的问题。为了阐述这一观点，文章引用了大量《红楼梦》中亲属称谓的实例加以分析，因为在这部反映中国传统文化的古典名著中总计出现了406个不同的称谓，有大量的敬称，谦称和极为庞大的亲属称谓，与英语中笼统含糊的亲属称谓形成了鲜明的对比。文章分别对其中具有典型中国特色的亲属称谓，敬称和谦称以及汉语中独有的亲从子命名法进行了分析。通过这些例子的分析来验证异化的方法在文化翻译中的重要作用。
