英语学习动机对高职高专学生外语词汇磨蚀的影响

词汇是语言的基本组成部分,词汇量是外语水平的重要衡量标准,离开词汇就无法表达思想。因而如何减少词汇磨蚀受到许多语言学家和语言教学者的关注,他们从心理学、病理学、语言学和社会语言学方面对词汇磨蚀进行了不同角度的研究,发现学习动机对词汇磨蚀有一定的影响。在二语习得中,动机被认为是学习者学习外语的刺激、需要和需求。Gardner和Lambert(1972)把动机分为两类:综合型动机和工具型动机。综合型动机指学习者对目的语社团有真正的兴趣,希望能更好地同目的语社区的人进行交际,融入到目的语社区的社会生活。工具型动机是指学习者为了达到一些工具性目标而产生的动机。本文主要从社会语言学的角度探讨动机和词汇磨蚀之间的关系,研究调查了动机对词汇磨蚀的影响,以及综合型动机学生和工具型动机学生词汇磨蚀的差异。整个实验持续了六个月时间。来自湖南工程职业技术学院两个非英语专业平行班的70名大一学生参加了本次实验。他们在课余时间按要求完成动机倾向及强度测试和二十个目标词的单词测试。六个月以后学生们在事先不知情的情况下做了同样词汇的测验。测试结果由SPSS分析完成。作者通过对学生访谈进一步分析学生的学习动机对词汇磨蚀的影响。实验结果表明:动机与学生的词汇磨蚀成负相关;工具型动机的学生词汇磨蚀要大于综合型动机的学生。本文的另一发现是动机强度也是影响词汇磨蚀的一个决定因素。结果表明动机对学生的词汇磨蚀造成了影响。基于所得结果,本文对学生,教师和研究者提出了相应建议。在词汇学习中,教师应采取措施努力把学习者的工具型动机转换成综合型动机,学习者也应该及时调整自己的学习动机,尽量减少词汇的磨蚀。
