英语应用语言学学术论文标题的句法结构及其历史演变

论文摘要

恰当的标题可使文章有效指向目标读者并有助于人们对文章进行选择。尽管对文章标题研究不少，但同时从历时和共时角度对其作全面研究的并不多。本文着重从结构和历时两个角度分析了英语语言学领域最主要的季刊TESOL Quarterly中从1967到2003年间总共981个原创论文的标题特征。标题从结构方面被分为六大类：复合型，名词+介词型，分词型，名词型，介词型以及句子型标题，从内容方面则分为方法，结果，结论和题目四类。文章对标题长度，介词用法以及其它特征作了研究，并对上述不同种类标题及其主要特征的变化进行了分析。结果表明：名词+介词型标题在所有标题中所占比例最大，其次是复合型标题，这类标题的比例正在逐年递增，而介词型标题则属于比例最小的一类；占绝对优势的题目类标题的使用正在减少而方法和结论类标题的比例在上升；标题的平均长度在逐年增长；介词of和in在所有介词中使用频率最高。本文为题材分析提供了新的语言学研究内容并有助于初写论文的科研人员写出恰当的论文标题。
