中西文化中的面子对比及其语用策略探讨

世界上的人类交往中没有不需要面子的交际,但不同文化背景的人们对“面子”的理解不尽相同。更重要的是,面子和面子工夫在跨文化交际中有着广泛的应用,并且起着相当重要的作用。在不同的文化背景下,中国人和西方人各自以独有的方式进行交际,其中双方对于“面子”的应用方式和应用原则存在天壤之别。本文试着从对比中西文化渊源入手,论述了中西文化氛围里对“面子”内涵理解的差异,探讨和对比不同文化背景下面子观的差异、成因及其言语策略。另一方面,本文论述和研究了在不同的文化背景下,面子问题在交际过程中应用的区别,对交际效果产生的影响以及相互融合的趋势。主要从以下几个方面进行论述:(a)阐述中国传统“礼”文化和集体主义价值观的特点;(b)“礼”文化和集体主义价值观影响下中国人的面子观;(c)美国文化中的个人主义特点;(d)个人主义价值观中面子概念的特点;(e)“礼”文化和集体主义价值观在美式面子观念中的体现以及中国人交往中个人主义的突显。本文的一大创新点在于试图探寻中西交流中两种不同的“面子”观念互相融合的新趋势。通过对比分析,本文归纳出跨文化交际过程中对面子策略的不同的运用原则,并从其文化根源上找出相互融合与理解的途径,从而让交际者在交际过程中能够更加深入掌握和运用面子原则的同时,从文化的相互融合中受益。另一方面,通过对两种文化价值观重要特征的剖析来发掘隐藏在“面子”背后的文化因素,文章着重指出了文化定势在跨文化交际中的积极意义以及中国人在移情方面所具有的优势。这也构成了本文的另一个创新点。
