作为一个众所周知的生态作家，爱德华艾比一生都致力于保护自然的写作。对自然的热爱以及对工业现代化的批判贯穿了他一生的创作。艾比共发表了27部作品，代表作有《沙漠独居者》（1968），《有意破坏帮》（1975）和《海都克还活着》（1989）。《黑太阳》是艾比又一部比较成功的作品。小说以荒野和自然为背景，讲述了一段唯美浪漫的爱情故事。随着对爱情故事发展的描述，作者详细阐释了大自然的宁静与美丽，并表达了人与自然和谐共处的美好愿望。通过对《黑太阳》中所表达的生态主义思想的分析，本文旨在宣扬他的反人类中心主义以及生态整体主义思想。本文分为三部分：引言，正文和结语。其中正文分为三章。第一章通过对于大自然独特魅力和人与自然之间密不可分关系的描述，详细介绍了艾比对于大自然的热爱。在他的作品中，艾比坚定的认为人类的真爱只存在于真正的大自然之中。第二章重点介绍他对于工业现代化的憎恶和批判。艾比一再指出，人类为了发展而大力倡导的工业现代化会给人类造成巨大地精神损失，从而使人类产生逃离工业社会，到大自然中寻找自我的欲望。同时，工业现代化所给自然带来的灾难也是不可修复的，它与自然之间的矛盾也理所当然的不可避免。遭受着现代工业所带来的对人类精神和大自然的双重伤害，人类逐渐丧失了追求真爱的勇气和能力。第三章强调了他基于生态主义思想中对于人类中心主义的批判，对于生态整体主义的理解和倡导。艾比对于人与自然之间关系的理解在这一章也得到了充分阐释，在艾比的生态主义观点中，人与自然是相互依存的。生态系统是一个有机的整体，而人类只是这个整体中的一部分，其生存和发展应该遵循自然规律。人类和自然之间相处的模式应该是反抗-妥协-平衡，这是人与自然和谐共处的唯一途径。
