英汉新闻语篇照应手段对比研究及翻译

衔接是语篇的一个重要特点。韩礼德和哈桑认为,一组句子能否组成篇章,其决定性因素是句子之间是否有衔接关系,正是这种衔接关系造就了“篇章性”。有关衔接的研究在国内国外都是篇章语言学的重要研究内容。20世纪50年代兴起的篇章语言学进一步扩大了衔接的研究范围。在中国,衔接也是汉语修辞学的重要组成部分。然而,中国的篇章语言学由于历时较短,大部分理论借鉴于西方。尽管如此,许多学者在英汉衔接手段对比研究领域做出了杰出的贡献,这对英汉翻译有很大的启迪。迄今为止英汉对比研究大多是对英汉两种语言进行概括比较,然而不同类型的语篇自有其特点,它们对衔接手段的运用也不尽相同。在其他学者的研究基础上,本文选择一种特定类型的语篇——新闻语篇——中的照应手段作为研究对象,比较英汉新闻语篇中照应衔接的异同,以期对英汉新闻翻译有所贡献。本文所进行的研究是实证性对比研究。为了便于研究,建立了一个语料库。为保证研究结果的科学性,研究过程中借助了Excel和SPSS统计软件。研究结果表明英汉新闻语篇均运用大量的照应衔接手段,但其各自的频率却不尽相同。其中最显著的差别在于人称照应和指示照应。基于研究结果,本文进一步提出英语新闻语篇汉译过程中照应的翻译方法。本文共有6章。第一章为引言部分,简单介绍本研究的研究对象、研究方法以及本研究的意义。第二章为文献综述,总结了中外学者在衔接领域的贡献,其中包括中国学者在英汉对比方面所做的探索与研究。该章首先回顾了篇章语言学的发展历史,继而介绍了对比研究的相关理论。鉴于本文的主要研究对象为照应,在此领域的学者们的研究成果得以概括总结。第三章主要介绍本文的相关术语。首先明晰了衔接的定义,继而介绍了本文的理论框架——韩礼德和哈桑关于衔接和照应的理论。在韩礼德和哈桑的理论基础上,胡壮麟、张德禄与刘汝山等对衔接理论做了进一步的研究,使该理论得到进一步发展。第四章为本文的主体部分,对英汉新闻语篇中的照应衔接进行详细的比较,相关的数据和研究结果都在这一章呈现。该章首先对照应进行分类,继而对各类在英汉新闻语篇中的衔接作用分别进行对比分析。结果证明英汉新闻语篇均采用大量的照应衔接手段,人称照应出现频率最高,指示照应次之,比较照应在三类照应中出现频率最低;由于新闻语篇中有大量的直接引语,第一和第二人称在此类语篇中的衔接作用得以充分体现;英汉新闻语篇各自的照应体系也大体相似,但也存在显著差别:英语中人称照应的运用频率大大高于汉语,且在指示照应体系内,英语中的定冠词“the”在汉语中无对应项;此外,英语中“this”/“that”和汉语“这”/“那”既存在对应,也存在不同。本章对以上异同都进行了详细的对比说明。基于第四章的研究结果,第五章针对英语新闻语篇的汉译,对其中的照应衔接的翻译方法提出初步建议。由于其差别主要在于人称照应和指示照应,该章对这两类的照应翻译提出了简单的建议,包括人称照应的省略及重现、指示照应的翻译策略等。第六章是结论部分,是对本研究的简单的总结,同时指出了本研究的不足之处及今后的研究方向。
