中国古典诗词英译模糊性的符号学翻译研究

论文摘要

翻译研究愈来愈成为一种跨学科的高度综合性学科。翻译学的综合学科体系建立有赖于其他学科的发展。而其中符号学作为人文社会科学研究的语义和逻辑基础,能对比较模糊的文化及学术现象进行精确的描述和科学的分析。 本文简要回顾了模糊语言学和文学符号学在各自研究领域的历史背景和最新进展,并运用文学符号学的相关概念和理论对中国古典诗词中广泛存在的模糊语言现象进行了全新、“科学”的结构主义阐释,对文学符号学在中国古典诗词英译研究的适用性进行了诗词译例的实证探讨。 为使翻译这种跨语言、跨文化的人类最重要的交际活动顺利进行,符码在一定程度上应具有相对的稳定性和规律性。然而诗人在运用符码进行诗歌创作时会故意破坏符码间的组合规则,诗歌符号能指与所指关系因而变得纷繁驳杂而非唯一确定,或者说,诗歌能指的自指性得到加强,成为能指优势符号,即“诗性”符号——能指不透明地指向所指,变得“半透明化”。诗歌能指与所指的非对称性是一种语言的超语意使用。由于形符与义符关系的非指称(复义)以及单一能指/所指含义的不确定(含混),中国古典诗词也往往具有模糊性特征,这主要体现在词汇语义、句法和意象三个符号学层面。 通过对中国古典诗词英译三个模糊性层面的符号学分析,本文旨在说明中外译者在进行中国古典诗词英译时需要对诗词的词汇语义模糊、句法不确定等特异性加强关注,对符号化的模糊意象进行充分的互文符号学考证,针对中国古典诗词重意象构造、轻形式联接的特征,译者需要在“脱节翻译”和“散文翻译”两个极端间寻找平衡点,在译文中适当保留与原诗词对等的模糊美学效果。
