转义与外语教学和学习

二十世纪七十年代,隐喻在世界范围内成为一个热门话题。自从九十年代以来,隐喻成为认知语言学的重点研究课题之一。在过去三十中,哲学家、心理学家、语言学家开始承认隐喻不仅是一种修辞手法,而且是语言和思维不可缺少的基础,更重要的是,隐喻研究应该包含语法隐喻研究。 本文旨在论述语法隐喻,特别是其中的转义现象,与语言学习者的学习成绩之间的关系,并能够为外语教学和外语学习提供一个全新的角度去探讨其中所遇到的问题,从而找到相应的办法。本文从以下五个方面论证此观点: 第一,语言研究者对隐喻的理解进一步深化。自从韩礼德于二十世纪六十年代提出其语法隐喻理论以来,隐喻研究的重点已经从词汇隐喻转移到语法隐喻。虽然词汇隐喻与语法隐喻在很多方面存在区别,但语法隐喻理论在很多方面对隐喻理论起着重要的补充作用。只有把语法隐喻理论包含在隐喻理论之中,隐喻理论的研究才能称得上是完整的。 第二,本文将从系统功能语法的角度探讨语法隐喻的性质。由于小句的意义表达同时涉及到三个纯理功能,而纯理功能又与语法隐喻相对应,所以语法隐喻可以分为概念语法隐喻、人际语法隐喻和语篇语法隐喻。在系统功能语言学的框架下,语法隐喻还可以作进一步细分:逻辑语法隐喻和经验语法隐喻一起实现概念语法隐喻,人际语法隐喻可细分为语气隐喻和情态隐喻。在语法隐喻的隐喻式和一致式的转换过程中,转义起着非常重要的作用。 第三,由于转义存在于语言应用中语义表达的各个层次,所以在本文中,转义被作为研究的核心。在词汇语法层次,转义有四种隐喻表现形式:名物化、形容词化、动词化和副词化。在小句层次,一个过程可以隐喻另一个过程,从而体现小句层次的转义。在实际语言应用中,语篇中大量的转义现象会导致语篇的复杂和歧义,并同时增强语篇的可读性。因此,语篇中所含的转义现象越多,该语篇难度就越大。 第四,在上述的理论框架的基础上,进行了一个个案研究。其目的在于研究语
