英文字母的表意特征与英汉思维差异研究

论文摘要

关于语言符号任意性和理据性的争论可以说是历史悠久,目前还没有定论。自索绪尔以来,一直是任意性的主张占据主导地位。长期以来不少学者在诠释语言的形象性时陷入了一种思维定势,认为中国人重直觉与具象而西方人重理性与逻辑,在语言上表现为汉语的形象性和英语的功能性。国内学者试图从词汇、句法和语篇层面探讨英语语言的象形本质及其理据,但关于字母在表意功能和英语思维方面的研究仍是凤毛麟角。本文仅对比英汉两种语言,着眼于英汉语言符号特征和思维方式的差异性,以汉字的偏旁为参照,以具有显著特征的词汇为具体研究对象,分门别类地论述特征字母在图画词汇、象形词汇、拟声词汇和表意词汇中的表意功能,根据国内外学者对词汇的研究和分析比较海量的英文词汇总结出特征字母,系统地论述了其在词汇中表意的现象；比较古英语字母与现代英语字母的表意功能、造字原则与方式和英语思维方式。最后,探讨了特征字母表意现象在认知语言学中的应用,针对王寅先生提出的认知语言学中八个主要问题中的“认知的无意识问题、基于原型成员的延伸问题、语义链问题、范畴容忍度问题和意象图式问题”作了回答；就词汇记忆和英汉思维方式差异提出了可行的办法。论文共分六部分。第一章导论：结合汉字偏旁的表意特征,综述了英文字母表意现象。第二章英语词汇分类：以表意字母为分类依据,把单词分成了图画词汇(含象形词汇)、表意词汇、拟声词汇和功能词汇。第三章字母起源与表意功能：探讨了英语字母的起源和古代、现代英文字母表意功能。第四章造字原则与方式：比较了英汉造字方式的异同,探讨了英语词形变化的两大方式和造字的原则。第五章特征字母表意理论的应用：主要探讨了特征字母理论对认知语言学主要理论发展的贡献、词汇识记和英汉思维方式的差异。第六章为结论。
