基于语料库的中外大学主页上的学校介绍的研究

在过去的二十年来,中国大学的对外交流越来越频繁,人们逐渐意识到大学网站主页上对学校的英文介绍在对外交流中起到的重要作用。然而,迄今为止,涉及大学英文介绍体裁方面的研究并不多,而有关中外大学网站主页上的英文介绍的对比研究也寥寥无几。本文用语料库作为研究工具,对国内的大学主页上的英文介绍和以英语为母语的美国和英国大学的学校介绍作对比研究。收集国内外大学的英文介绍并自建两个语料库,其中一个语料库包含了30篇中国大学的学校介绍,另一个包括20篇美国大学的学校介绍和10篇英国大学的学校介绍。根据这两个语料库,本文从语步结构和词汇分析这两个角度来做对比研究。本文采用了Swales的语步分析方法,从语步的发生频率,数量,顺序,长度和语步内容等方面分析中国和英美国家大学英文介绍的语步结构的异同。研究结果表明中国和英美国家的大学介绍在语步的种类上大体一致,但是在其它几个方面体现出极大的不同。研究还对“university”这个单词在两个语料库中搭配的不同进行分析,并指出中国大学英文介绍中“famous”这个单词的误用。语言迁移现象是解释这些差异的一个重要因素。本文的研究结果对于中国大学如何更有效地撰写英文介绍具有实用价值。
