林语堂《啼笑皆非》自译研究—林语堂译本与宋碧云译本的比较研究

论文摘要

自译是指“由原作文本的作者完成的翻译”(Hemo6HH,2003：13),是一种特殊且有趣的翻译现象。对自译现象进行研究不仅能够丰富翻译理论,对翻译实践也有重要意义。自译者在翻译过程中对各种翻译问题的处理、对翻译策略及技巧的选择运用,对普通译者具有非常重要的启发意义,有助于他们提高翻译水平,从而产生更高质量的翻译作品。自译者一般都是双语作家,这一要求决定了自译活动并不多见。中国优秀的自译作家有林语堂、萧乾、张爱玲、白先勇等。虽然国内已经不乏有关他们自译活动的研究,但大多研究都只关注到自译,甚少将自译与他译进行比较。实际上,从某种意义上来说,研究自译的最佳途径就是将自译与他译进行比较。这正是该论文的出发点。本文选取著名双语作家林语堂英文作品Between Tears and Laughter的自译为例,将林语堂自译本与台湾译者宋碧云的译本进行比较,总结了林语堂的自译特点,并探讨了影响林语堂自译的各种因素。通过比较研究,我们总结出林语堂自译的三个主要特点：中文译文比英文原文更详细充实；译其原文大意而非字字对译；中文句式的灵活运用。在此基础上,我们分析了林语堂自译过程中运用的翻译策略：释义、直译加注与自由增译。最后,论文从三个方面探讨了影响林语堂自译的因素,包括英文写作的内容、译者的翻译观以及以读者对导向的翻译思想。由于是翻译自己的作品,自译者比普通译者对原文有着更加深刻全面的理解。林语堂的自译在看似“不忠实”和“叛逆”的背后,实际上是最为忠实的翻译。不仅如此,由于其深厚的双语功底和中西文化造诣,林语堂的中文译文甚至超过英文原文。我们已经很难分清哪是原文,哪是译文。
