凝视、聚焦与身份认同 ——文学研究与文化研究的融合

论文摘要

以莎士比亚为代表的精英文学传统向来是英国的自豪。但在20世纪60年代,英国伯明翰学派却在这里开创了通俗文化研究,并对英国国内的文学研究产生了重大的影响。通俗文化研究关注文化与权力的冲突,以社会批评为己任,以学科交叉的研究方法来解读社会文化产品。崭新的研究视角和研究方法使其蓬勃发展,激进的政治观念更是给温文尔雅的文学和文学研究以巨大冲击。在通俗文化的热潮中,文学研究究竟何去何从?本文是对这一宏观问题的思考和微观层面上的回答。本文将从文化研究中的文本解读策略对文学文本分析的影响这一角度出发,通过论述文化研究中的“凝视”与文学研究中的“聚焦”的重叠与互补关系,说明文化研究与文学研究存在重叠和互补的空间,而文化研究促使文学研究关注权力话语,使后者更多地承担批评社会的责任。本文将回答以下三个问题:(1)凝视与聚焦如何重合;(2)作为聚焦的凝视如何使文学研究获得文化的阐释空间;(2)文化研究如何促使文学研究关注经典文本建构背后的权力关系。在此基础上,本文作者提出了解决文化研究和文学研究冲突的新视角。
