英语教师话语标记语的元功能分析

随着Schiffrin的《话语标记语》的出版,话语标记语已经被越来越多的学者所关注。他们从不同方面对话语标记语从不同角度进行了分析。主要的研究焦点在于话语标记语的定义、分类、功能等等。尽管对话语标记语的研究很多,但很少有学者从系统功能语法的元功能角度进行研究。作为一种很普通的语言现象,话语标记语也常常出现于英语教学当中。然而,由于话语标记语缺乏主题意义,往往被教师忽略。考虑到教师话语在英语习得中所起的重要作用,对话语标记语的使用以及功能的研究显得很重要。本文试对话语标记语从元功能角度分析其作用。本文试图回答两个问题:(1)哪些话语标记语在教师话语中频繁出现。(2)话语标记语在英语教师话语中起着怎样的元功能。为了回答以上问题,作者做了大量工作,选取六名教师作为研究对象,并对他们的课堂进行录音,并通过转写作为研究语料。在研究过程中,定性和定量两个研究方法被结合起来。通过研究作者发现了有部分话语标记语被老师频繁使用,而有些话语标记语尽管与另一些话语标记语意义相近,但使用明显更频繁。不同的老师使用不同的话语标记语,而一些老师使用某些话语标记语明显比其它的要多。通过研究可以看出,对话语标记语确实可以从系统功能语法角度研究,它们也确实具有元功能。然而,不同的话语标记语具有不同的元功能,而一个话语标记语有时具有不止一个元功能。具有概念功能的话语标记语往往具有语意含义,它们可以指示出两个相邻句子的逻辑关系,话语标记语对于实现话语的连贯和统一也起着重要作用,它们也具有明显而复杂的人际功能。教师使用话语标记语进行评价,展示观点,指示下文内容,甚至于当学生不能回答对问题时,还可以起到缓和的作用。通过研究,可以看出话语标记语可于帮助学生理解教师话语,并使师生互动顺利进行。因此,对话语标记语的掌握在英语教学中显得很重要。
