概念合成理论在大学英语词汇教学中的应用

语言是人类重要的交际工具,词汇则是语言诸要素中最重要的组成部分。因此,语言学习者必然要从习得词汇开始。但是,如何更高效的帮助我国英语学习者习得词汇以及如何更有效的应用词汇一直是语言教育者亟待解决的课题。我国以往的英语词汇教学多采用翻译法、直接法、听说法、交际法等教学方法,其大部分是关于词汇的意、形、义的分析,却很少有人关注人脑在学习过程中所涉及的认知活动。从某种程度上来说,这些教学法可以帮助初学者识记一些词汇,但其无法帮助学习者透彻理解词汇意义。概念合成理论是认知语言学一个重要的分支,其认为概念合成网络是由四个心理空间构成:两个输入空间,一个类属空间以及一个合成空间。人脑会将来自客观世界的认知域输入到心理空间并通过跨空间部分映射匹配到类属空间,最后有选择地投射到合成空间。多个心理空间通过投射链彼此紧密相连,构成了一个完整的心理空间网络,从而完成对输入信息的认知处理过程。本文采用定量和定性相结合的分析方法,将大学英语四级词汇按六种基本构词法(合成法、派生法、曲折变化法、转化法、缩略法、首字母缩略法等)分类,尝试应用概念合成理论帮助学习者有效地在新旧知识之间建立心理空间桥梁,更好地理解词汇深层意义。作者随机抽选了辽宁师范大学09级非英语专业60名学生作为研究对象,按成绩将其平均分为实验班和普通班进行对比研究。经过三个月的概念合成理论培训及相关英语能力测试,实验结果表明,实验班的学生在词汇识记和理解应用等方面确实明显高于普通班。因此,本文得出结论,教师使用概念合成理论可以更好帮助学生习得词汇,提高英语词汇教学质量。学习者习得词汇时可以有效利用认知理论激起以往的词汇库,进而凸显与新词汇相关的背景知识,从而在新旧词汇间建立一个概念合成网络。
