普通高中生英语学习动机的研究及对英语教学的启示

论文摘要

人类的一切行为都有一定的动机。英语学习也是一种行为,同样也有一定的动机。根据Jakobovits（Jakobovits,1971 18-21）的研究,影响外语学习的主要因素分为四类:语言能力（33%）,智力（20%）,动机（33%）和其他因素（14%）。由此我们不难看出学生的学习动机在外语学习中有着举足轻重的作用。在国内,一些研究人员也对外语学习动机进行过大量研究,他们的研究主要探讨何种动机类型与中国学生英语学习成绩联系更直接。但是,英语学习动机和英语成绩间关系的密切程度到底如何呢?对一个外语学习者来说,只有了解了自己的学习动机才能采取与之相关的策略。如果我们的学生连自己为什么要学习英语都不清楚,又怎么能学好英语呢?本文作者通过对高中生的英语学习动机的类型分析和研究,解决了以下几方面的问题。普通高中生的学习动机的主要类型:作者通过自己的问卷调查得出普通高中生的学习动机主要有:情景型,工具型和文化型。工具型包括个人发展,成绩动机和信息媒介;其中成绩动机可以说有“应试”语境的特色。将考试成绩作为决定升学、求职等个人前途机会的主要甚至唯一因素,是包括中国在内的一些亚洲国家和地区教育体制的特色,学习者也因而产生了应付外部要求的动机（Warden and Lin, 2000 70-72 ）。因此,成绩动机在普通高中普遍存在,它在高中生的英语学习中起着非常重要的作用。在教学过程中,作为教师,是否可以让学生先认识自己的英语学习动机类型,从而调整自己的学习策略,促进英语学习。在作者的教学过程中,通过这种方法,的确取得了一定的效果。学习动机和学习成绩之间的关系:通过实验,我们还看到学习动机和学习成绩之间有着非常密切的关系,学习成绩好的学生对英语以及它所代表的文化都非常的感兴趣,他们相信他们有能力学好它,并相信自己能成功。作者也通过自己的教学经历得出:通过激发和培养学生英语学习的动机,可以使学生的英语成绩进步显著。
