通过调查和科学研究可以预见,计算机应用测试(CT)总有一天会取代纸和笔的测试。早在五十多年以前,最早的CT系统着重于信息技术产业的认证测试。如今,很多以前使用纸笔测试的市场都接受了CT系统模式。尽管如此,在教育机构选择CT执行模式时,仍然存在一些问题。现存的CT系统有以下几种执行方式:基于计算机的测试(CBT),基于网络的测试(WBT)或者是基于软件Agent的测试(SABT)。每种方式都有自己的优缺点。另一方面,在教育机构领域,当特定测试为跨学科时,每种方式的缺点都明显于其优点。如CBTs局限于测试范围较窄,WBTs在不可预测的网络延时和连接失败时尤为脆弱,SABTs使用的接口不兼容。另外,所有已知的CT系统都只围绕单一的测试传输模式(TDM)进行设计,也就是说,仅仅能进行线性测试,或线性的飞行测试,或三角模式,或主从模式或者是计算机化的适应测试,然而这些测试在一个学科不同测试传输模式中可能同时需要用到。本文讨论的方式是不同的,是基于联合面向Agent和现有的网络接口技术的方案。论文构造了一个面向英特网的多Agent学生考试系统(MEST),本系统是一个集CBT,WBT和SABT优势的可用于任何传输模式的测试系统。
