自20世纪80年代以来,学习者信念就在国外受到了广泛的关注。研究者们意识到学习者信念是学习者因素一个重要组成部分,并从多个角度对学习者信念进行了研究(Wenden,1986a,1986b;Horwitz,1988;Cotterall,1995;Barcelos,2000;Cheng,2001),结果均证实学习者信念对语言学习产生重要影响。虽然国内已有学者明确指出调查学习者信念在第二语言和外语教学中的重要性(Li,2002),但是关于学习者信念的全面细致的研究还相对较少。鉴于上述情况,笔者开展了本次研究。研究运用“中国英语学习者信念调查表”调查了132名非英语专业学生六个方面的英语学习信念:语言学能、英语难度、英语学习的本质、学习与交际策略、英语学习动机、教师与学习者的作用;并采用大学英语四级模拟试题对受试的英语水平进行测试。通过对数据的收集和整理,本研究揭示了中国英语学习者普遍持有的学习信念,并采用SPSS 13.0统计软件分析了受试六类信念与听、说、读、写和总成绩五个方面的相关关系。研究结果表明:中国英语学习者的学习信念与他们的听、说、读、写以及总成绩基本存在不同程度的相关关系。
