从林语堂翻译理论对比Moment in Peking的两个汉译本

论文摘要

《京华烟云》是林语堂最具影响力的英文小说之一,林语堂通过该作品,将博大精深的中华文化传播到海外。本文试图以林语堂的翻译理论为依据,主要从译者基本素质和林语堂翻译标准两个方面对该小说的两个中译本进行比较研究。在译者基本素质方面,作者拟从译者的规范和译者责任两个方面进行比较;在翻译标准方面,从忠实、通顺和美的原则三个方面对两个中译本进行比较研究。本文选取了张振玉和郁飞译本中的几十个译例,采取定性分析的方式,以林语堂翻译理论为依据,对《京华烟云》两个汉译本进行比较分析,希望通过分析促成该作品更好中译本的出现。通过比较分析,作者发现,两个中译本的翻译各具特色,郁飞的译本更忠实于原文,而张振玉的版本更类似于译者的再创作,无论在内容还是形式方面,都对原作做出了较多改动。另外,两个汉译本也又不尽如人意的地方,许多不尽忠实、通顺之处,若采用林语堂句译之方法大都可以避免。通过比较研究,作者得出结论:句译而非字译乃实现译文的音美、形美、意美和神美的手段。在翻译过程中,译者必须以句子而非单个字为单位,在充分挖掘原文字神句气和言外之意的基础上准确传达原文内容与风格,从而达到传神的目的。
