人际功能指人们在用语言来进行交际的同时,也在建立和保持人际关系。人际功能的研究引起了很多研究者的兴趣,其中最著名的是系统功能语言学的刨始人韩礼德,他认为人际功能可以通过多种方式来实现,而语气和情态是实现人际功能的两个最主要系统。本文以韩礼德系统功能语法中人际功能理论为理论框架,以英语求职信为分忻材料,对语气与情态系统在求职信中的人际功能体现进行了全面细致的分忻。本文从各种求职信写作书籍和英特网上收集了32封英语求职信,并运用定量和定性相结合的方法对所选数据进行分忻。首先,求职信被分为两部分,分别是自我介绍部分和结束部分;然后统计出各种语气与情态在求职信中出现的频率,再通过表格呈现出来。最后通过实例详细分忻了求职信中人际功能是如何通过语气和情态系统来实现的。研究结果表明:一、人际功能可以通过语气的选择来体现。在求职信当中运用最广泛的是陈述语气;疑问和祈使语气很少被用到,因为求职信主要是通过描述自己的背景,个性,工作经历等让雇主觉得你是适合的人选,而陈述句是提供信息的最好方式。二、人际意义还可以通过情态来实现,低值情态词和中值情态词是在求职信中最常用来表达人际功能的手段,它们可以体现说话者严谨,认真,礼貌等态度。三、情态副词和情态隐喻对表达说话者的观点和想法也有辅助作用。
