英语幽默中的模糊修辞

幽默作为一种人类现象渗透于生活的各个方面,发挥着社会的,文化的,认知的或心理的各种不同的功能。以其社会功能举例来说,幽默发挥着如同礼节礼仪一样重要的作用,它可以增进一致,控制纷争,摆脱困境以及维持和调节社会秩序。在当今世界,幽默感被普遍认为是一种及其迷人的魅力气质并被认为是一种个人独有的审美态度。关于幽默的研究可以追溯到柏拉图和亚里士多德时代,从那时起,许多研究者和学者们便从心理、社会、认知以及哲学等各个方面来研究幽默。本文则尝试从模糊修辞这一新的焦度来阐释幽默。自从美国学者L.A.查得在二十世纪七十年代提出著名的模糊集合论以来,许多学者的注意力便被吸引到对语言中模糊现象的研究上来。模糊语言学研究的是语言中的不确定性,它使人们认识到模糊是语言的一个内在特征以及正确的使用模糊表达能大大增进人们的交际效果。模糊语言学的丰硕成果与当代修辞学相结合便形成了一门新的分支学科——模糊修辞学。模糊修辞学着力于研究在言语交际中产生的模糊现象,以及如何利用语言的模糊性来增进交际表达效果。本文以模糊集合论作为理论基础,主要研究了英语幽默中的模糊修辞现象。本文首先回顾了对于幽默,语言中的模糊现象和模糊修辞的研究,接着从语音、词汇、句法以及传统修辞格等角度来分析了英语幽默中模糊修辞的构成手段。接下来又讨论了幽默中模糊修辞的工作机制,即运用信息论的相关原理阐明了幽默模糊是在编码的过程中被设置的,而幽默的模糊面纱则是在解码的过程中被揭开的。然后本文进一步探讨了幽默模糊的语用功能,即传递言外之意,对别人表示礼貌,自我保护和增强语势的交际功能。最后总结指出了本文主要的研究成果,存在的不足之处,并对于这一课题在末来的研究进行了展望。
