隐喻及其翻译

论文摘要

隐喻研究有两千多年的历史,但传统上一直囿于修辞领域。隐喻仅仅被看作是语言的装饰,如同蛋糕上的糖衣,美味可口,但不是必需的。随着西方哲学的语言学转向,以及符号学、认知心理学等新学科的兴起,哲学家、符号学家、心理学家和语言学家等都纷纷关注隐喻,并从多学科、多角度探索隐喻的性质、功能和工作机制。尤其是Reddy和Lakoff等人从语言发生学和认知语言学的角度对隐喻的认知功能的研究,开辟了隐喻研究的新天地。人们对隐喻的认识也不断深入。在研究者看来,隐喻不再只是一种语言现象,更重要的是人类普遍的一种思维方式,一种认知手段。隐喻的产生,起初是出于人类思维能力的局限,后来则是出于认知的需要,或为了获得更好的表达效果。隐喻蕴含着丰富的文化内涵。文化的了解可大大避免误译,故译者应牢记文化差异,增强跨文化意识。至于英语隐喻的汉译,本文谈到其各方面,包括翻译方法。文章还指出,由纽马克提出的翻译程序与中国学者提出的翻译方法有着互相对应的紧密关系。作者希望此论文对中国的英语学习者欣赏、应用、翻译英语中的隐喻有所帮助。
