认知语言学是认知科学与语言学结合形成的一门新的学科,以经验现实主义认识论作为其哲学基础,强调经验对于认知以及语言的作用,研究通过经验形成的认知结构及其规律如何影响语言。认知语言学中的图形-背景理论反映了语言和认知的关系。图形是认知当中突出的部分,是注意的焦点;而背景相对于图形而言在认知当中突显程度低,可以看作图形的环境或认知上的参照点。在语言表达中,在认知中被突显的图形通常被放在突出的主语位置。说话人的语言表达实际上反映了其认知重点。自从19世纪70年代中外学者一直致力于中国古典诗歌的翻译研究,并取得了丰硕成果,但是在音、意、形的平衡上一直存在争议。图形-背景理论给我们提供了一种新的翻译视角。通过确定诗歌中意象的图形或背景地位,分析各个部分不同的突显度,探索诗人认知中的注意焦点,准确把握诗人的内心世界,在译入语中选择适当的语言形式,使诗中各部分在译文中的突显度与在原诗中相同。本文主要采用比较分析的方法,运用认知语言学图形-背景理论的重要观点和概念对中国古典诗歌意义的传达、意境的再现以及形式进行了分析,并且从图形-背景理论视角分析了不同的译本得失。通过比较分析得出:认知语言学图形-背景理论可以帮助译者更好地理解原文,并且指导译者恰当地用译入语传递原诗信息,展现原诗意境,不但在意义上忠于原诗,而且尽量在形式上对等。认知语言学图形-背景理论为中国古典诗歌翻译提供了一条新的途径。
