中国古建筑术语的英译研究

论文摘要

古建筑术语是古建筑学科的文化积淀与学术结晶,当今日益频繁的中外文化交流对古建筑术语的英译提出更高的要求。本文以建筑大师梁思成编著、其子梁丛诫翻译并在美国出版的中英文著作《图像中国建筑史》为蓝本,对现行常用的术语英译法进行了系统探讨。文章根据建筑学科的常规将术语所指代的构件分为支撑构件,屋顶构件和装饰构件,并配上大量插图,通过查找译语对应词,分析文化承载的方法,对比评析术语的译法。从译法上看,音译可以保留术语的文化承载,却往往因其读者无法从中了解到术语所指,而造成理解的困难；意译强调展现术语所指,却常常要牺牲文化承载,而音译结合意译的翻译方法可以达到使译语读者了解构件名称及其所指并进一步了解该术语的文化承载。从术语译名表述的类型来看,主要有四种：有英语对应语且有中国文化承载的术语、有英语对应语而无中国文化承载且的术语、无英语对应语但有中国文化承载的术语与既无英语对应语又无中国文化承载的术语。译者可以根据尤金·奈达功能对等理论,灵活选择翻译策略,以期达到等效效果。
