原型批评视野下《高老庄》与《还乡》之比较研究

原型批评视野下《高老庄》与《还乡》之比较研究

原型批评理论的出现为大量文学巨作,如古希腊悲剧、《圣经》和莎士比亚戏剧等,提供了全新的分析切入点。本文运用原型批评相关理论对中国当代作家贾平凹的《高老庄》和英国小说家托马斯·哈代的《还乡》两部小说进行了平行比较研究。《高老庄》与《还乡》在情节安排上有着共同的“回归故里”大背景,两位主人公都是在离乡数年后的选择性回归;在故事设置上也有相似之处,比如主人公的所处环境;在故事发生的文化背景上,两者都处在社会工业化和城镇化的转型时期。两部作品的相似点奠定了比较的基础,在此之上,本文运用原型批评理论主要创始人诺思洛普·弗莱的原型主题和原型意象对两部作品进行了诠释与比较。在《高老庄》与《还乡》中,随着故事情节的发展,本文发掘出了原型主题中的逃离主题与成长主题;通过将书中主要人物的对应展开,具体呈现出了四个典型原型意象,即荒漠意象、希腊女神意象、基督教精神意象以及影子意象。通过对四个意象和两个主题的挖掘,证明了原型批评理论应用于比较文学方面的可行性和正确性,该理论将单一的文学作品纳入到文学大系统中,而“原型”就是连接单一文学作品之间的桥梁。同时,通过对两部小说的平行比较阐发了一个事实,即不同国家在特定历史时期演绎着相同的社会发展规律及矛盾。
