An Investigation of College English Teachers’ Intercultural Sensitivity in Quanzhou

英语教师在日常的教学中不仅讲授着英语语言还下意识地传播着英美国家的文化。在全球化日益发展的今天,这种下意识的行为已经越来越不能满足时代的要求。有意识的调查,分析及提高英语教师的跨文化交际能力成了众多研究者的课题。从这一立场出发,本文对泉州市高校英语教师的跨文化敏感度进行了深入的调查。通过使用陈国明的Intercultural Sensitivity Scale,和SPSS软件进行的分析,得出如下结论:(1)这些高校英语教师的跨文化敏感度整体上处于中等水平,达不到高校英语教学应有的水平。(2)不同的个人禀赋对教师的跨文化敏感度有着不同的影响。数据显示年龄,性别,教育背景,职称和学生是否是英语专业等因素对教师的跨文化敏感度没有明显的影响。而跨文化交际经验等因素对教师的跨文化敏感度有着显著的影响。本文对泉州市高校英语教师跨文化敏感度的调查于理论和实践上都有一定的意义。理论上,本文对泉州市高校英语教师跨文化敏感度,进而是跨文化交际能力做了客观的了解和评估;丰富和补充了对教师这一特殊人群的跨文化交际能力的研究。实践上,本调查对英语语言教学及英语教师培训的提高和完善教提供了一些可行的建议。
