二语习得中年龄因素的研究

本学位论文主要考察二语习得中的年龄因素问题。年龄问题是影响外语学习的重要因素之一。它不仅是应用语言学、心理语言学等语言学科的讨论“热点”,而且成为涉及教育学、心理学、生理学等众多学科作用于外语学习的“焦点”问题。基于以往的经验,人们普遍认为儿童习得第二语言比成人快得多、容易得多。关于儿童比成人习得语言快且成功的重要论断是Lenneberg的临界期假说(Critical PeriodHypothesis)。持有这一观点的学者认为:青春期以前,学习者由于年龄小,生理和心理处于发育期,大脑的可塑性强,因而比较容易学会地道的第二语言;而成人发育完全成熟,大脑逐渐失去可塑性,过了学习第二语言的最佳年龄,因而较难学会第二语言。这一假说常常在一些移民他国的儿童身上得到了验证,他们似乎比他们的父母更快,更容易习得当地的语言,而不需要他们花费很大的努力和精力。然而成年人即使努力学习二语多年,其结果却不尽人意。这种观点似乎认定儿童天生是优秀的二语学习者。但是,这一点并未获得语言学领域学者的一致认同。Ellis认为十几岁的青少年是最好的学习者,但他们的优势在于发音方面,由于儿童知识水平的局限性,他们在理解语言规则以及如何学习二语的语法等方面更多地需要依赖于成人、尤其是作为知识传授者的教师的指导。本学位论文通过对于语言学习中三个年龄段的学习者的各自特点的分析以及调查问卷的数据分析,得到了以下几点结论:1)儿童、少年和成人在二语习得中有着各自的优势和劣势。儿童并不比成人有绝对优势,所谓的“最佳年龄,只是相对于其他的两类试验对象而言。2)二语习得并非越早越好。为了提高不同年龄学习者外语学习水平。教育者应根据儿童、少年和成人各自的特点,有目的、有针对性地定相应的学习策略及适当、有效的方法。作者希望通过本文为有关年龄问题的研究提供一个不同视角,即研究的目的在于探究出不同年龄的人的心理、生理特点,在学习外语的过程中,扬其所长,避其所短。
