传统的隐喻研究把隐喻看作是一种修辞手法。Lakoff & Johnson (1980)认为隐喻是人类重要的认知工具,提出了概念隐喻理论。当今隐喻已经成为众多学科,如语言学,哲学,心理学,翻译学等关注的热门话题。《隐喻的研究与应用》(Cameron & Low,2001)的出版标志着隐喻的研究已经进入了应用研究阶段。许多国外的学者和研究者用实验证明了隐喻对外语教学的促进作用,但迄今为止,隐喻对外语教学几乎没有任何影响,在国内外外语教学领域尚未得到应有的重视。本研究在Boers(2000) and Berendi, et al (2008)基础上,通过实验验证了其研究结果,并进一步探索了概念隐喻对EFL词汇教学的促进作用。本研究的两个研究问题为:1.在EFL词汇教学中培养隐喻意识有利于词汇的短期和长期记忆吗?2.隐喻意识培养有利于EFL隐喻词汇的自主学习吗?嘉应学院梅州师范分院的两个班参加了实验,这两个班实验前的英语水平和隐喻水平都是大致相同的。实验为期8周,整个实验包括前测,针对实验班为期一个月的专门的隐喻意识培养(包括一次隐喻讲座及三周的隐喻意识培养课程),二节对比词汇教学课(实验班和对比班分别用概念隐喻归类的方法和传统的方法学习相同的隐喻词汇),三次后测。所收集的数据用SPSS17.0软件进行分析。分析结果证实了本研究的两个假设,因此本研究得出结论:把培养隐喻意识与EFL隐喻词汇教学相结合有利于词汇的短期和长期记忆,也有利于EFL隐喻词汇的自主学习。本研究的其他发现还包括:比起短期记忆,隐喻意识培养更有利于词汇的长期记忆;隐喻意识培养对词汇意思的记忆的帮助非常明显,但对词汇形式的记忆的帮助较小;语言相近对概念隐喻及隐喻词汇的学习过程没有很大影响;隐喻意识比较有利于与学习过的概念隐喻有关的词汇的自主学习,而对未学习过的概念隐喻表层的隐喻词汇的自主学习帮助较小;实验班的高分组比低分组更容易理解概念隐喻与隐喻词汇基于实验的结果和发现,本研究就如何培养隐喻意识以及如何将培养隐喻意识与大学英语词汇教学相结合提出了几点建议供英语教学者参考。总的来说,将培养隐喻意识与EFL词汇教学相结合不但有利而且可行,但由于本研究具有一定的局限性,相关问题仍有待进一步探讨。
