A Corpus-based Approach to Teaching and Learning English Vocabulary in the College English Course

一直以来,词汇教学在大学英语课程中属于弱项。在通常的英语词汇教学中,往往忽视了对词汇的搭配词和语境的学习,而搭配词和语境对于词汇的掌握来说又是至关重要的,不应该被忽视。为了很好的解决这个问题,本文探讨了一种基于语料库进行词汇教学的方法。作为一种辅助性工具应用于语言教学,语料库还是应用语言学中一个新兴的研究领域。它收集了大量真实的语言材料,运用先进的检索软件,使得对数量庞大的语言数据进行快速分析成为可能。因此,运用语料库来进行英语词汇教学也是可能的。具体地说来,在本论文中,语料库被用来帮助学习者学习特定词汇的搭配词和语境。本论文分析了词汇教学的趋势,并且通过一个运用“语料库词汇教学方法”进行的教学实验,从理论和实践上来摸索用语料库来辅助大学英语课程中的词汇教学的方案。本论文的主要内容包括:1.阐述大学英语词汇教学的现状和主要趋势,分析了使得大学英语词汇教学成为棘手问题:老师和学生耗费大量时间精力来应付词汇,却收效甚微,以及导致这些问题的主要原因,即中学词汇量要求相对较小而大学要求相对较大;汉语对于英语词汇学习的负面影响;在词汇学习中重量不重质的问题。论述了基于定义的词汇教学方法、基于上下文的词汇教学方法和词汇的自主学习。2.综述词汇教学的理论,主要包括Sinclair提出的两个原则——开放选择原则(Open-choice Principle)和约定俗成原则(Idiom Principle),Rosamund Moon提出的多词项(Multi-word Item)理论和Paul Nation、Robert Waring和William Nagy关于语境的理论。3.概述语料库语言学及语料库的基本原理,介绍了语料库的概念、特征和语料库的使用。论述了基于语料库进行词汇教学的方法。除此以外,本文还说明了语料库与词汇教学的关系,介绍了本论文使用的主要工具——大学英语课程语料库。语料库能够广泛运用的一个重要原因在于其能够提供检索行。而与传统词汇教学方式相比,运用语料库进行词汇教学的好处包括可以运用语料库提供的检索行学习搭配词以及上下文语境,抓住词与词之间深层次的联系,而非孤立地学习词汇,能够节约学习花在深层次词汇学习上面的时间,即快速迅速地掌握词汇的大量信息。4.介绍基于语料库进行词汇教学的方法的实验应用,通过一个教学实验阐明了如何利用语料库进行词汇教学的方法。
