美国之音新闻中的模糊语言研究

长期以来,模糊语言被人们视为语言的不足和缺憾而竭力避免使用。随着语言学家研究的深入,模糊语言作为语言的组成部分逐渐为人们所认识和接受,然而这种认识更多地仍然停留在一些有弹性的领域,诸如日常会话,广告用语,外交用语等。像新闻报道这类较为严肃的语言使用中是否同样存在模糊语言呢?本研究以VOA新闻为研究对象,致力于探索其中模糊语言的使用情况,包括：1.模糊语言在VOA新闻报道中占多大比例?2.模糊语言所占比例与新闻话题是否相关?若相关,呈现出何种关系?3.模糊语言是如何顺应新闻报道的?为了回答上述研究问题,本文使用了定量和定性两种研究方法。首先,作者从1000篇VOA新闻中选取了关于经济,科技,历史文化,艺术,教育,体育,外交,军事等14个话题的共计140篇新闻(每个话题各10篇),并对其中的模糊语言进行了统计。统计数据在计算机软件SPSS(社会科学统计软件)的分析处理下向我们显示：1.模糊语言广泛地存在于VOA新闻中。平均而言,VOA新闻中6.8%的词汇属于模糊语言,即大约每15个词中就有1个是模糊用语。如果将模糊的形式考虑在内,则模糊词语的数量远远超过了模糊附加词；2.模糊语言在新闻中所占的比例和该新闻话题的确定程度密切相关。其次,作者在Verschueren (2000)的顺应理论的帮助下从语境关系,语言结构,动态性及意识程度四个方面对模糊语言如何顺应新闻报道进行了详细分析,提出模糊语言在新闻报道中的使用不仅是新闻报道者在语言上的选择,而且是模糊语言对新闻报道特殊要求的顺应。就新闻报道而言,恰当使用模糊语言至少可以起到便于听众理解和记忆,保证报道的客观性,不泄露机密,和实现政治目的的作用。
