从Red Star over China四个中译本看意形态对文学翻译的影响

论文摘要

Red Star over China是美国记者埃德加·斯诺的成名之作。这本书第一次向全世界介绍了三十年代中国红军的生活方式及其信念,为中国共产党赢得了全世界人民的广泛支持,是一部划时代的报告文学巨著。该书在中国的翻译与流传经历了几个不同的时期,为研究文学翻译与社会历史背景的互动关系提供了一个恰当的个案文本。本文从社会和历史的角度出发,以勒菲弗尔的翻译改写理论为理论基础,试图探讨意识形态对文学翻译的影响及其在译文中的体现。作者选取了Red Star over China四个不同时期的中译本,即1938年由复社出版的书名为《西行漫记》的译本,1979年由三联书店出版的书名为《西行漫记》的译本,1992年由河北人民出版社出版的书名为《红星照耀中国》的译本和2005年由外语教学与研究出版社出版的《西行漫记》中英对照本,并以朗贝尔(Lambert)和范·戈普(van Gorp)的翻译描述模型为基础,对四个译本进行了全面系统的比较分析,着重探讨了不同历史时期的意识形态对译本的影响。本文按照前述翻译描述模型对四个译本进行了如下分类差异比较:初步资料,包括书名和序言;宏观层次,包括章节标题、总体翻译策略和总体语言风格;微观层次,包括受政治因素影响的词汇和受时间因素影响的词汇;以及系统的背景,包括译本的接受性和译本间的相互关系。在比较差异的同时着重从意识形态影响方面对其原因进行了分析,证明了目的语文化的意识形态操纵几乎渗透到了翻译活动的每个方面:从最初选择源文本进行翻译出版,到总体翻译策略的实施,到语言层次方面的措辞,以及到翻译文本的接受。
