随着第一部小说《喜福会》(1989)获得巨大成功，谭恩美便成了家喻户晓的名字,之后她又相继推出了《灶神之妻》、《百种神秘感官》、《接骨师的女儿》和近期新作《命运的对立面》和《救救溺水鱼》。其中《接骨师的女儿》因其与作家本人真实生活经历的相似之处,而被认为其自传性最强的小说,一经出版就受到文学评论界的一致好评。近年来,文学作品中的沉默主题越来越受到评论家的关注。《接骨师的女儿》在以母女关系为主题展开故事的同时,无处不弥漫着女性沉默的迹象。因此,本文试图结合斯皮瓦克的后殖民女性主义理论和福柯的权力与话语理论来分析作品中的沉默主题。全文共有五个部分。第一部分简单介绍了谭恩美的文学成就及小说《接骨师的女儿》。第二部分为文献综述和理论简介。第三部分首先分析了外祖母、母亲和女儿三代人在不同社会背景下的沉默迹象,继而结合福柯的权力与话语理论分析了三代女性沉默背后的原因。第四章结合斯皮瓦克的属下理论和福柯的权力与话语理论,在分析沉默的破坏性和创造性的基础上,指出了打破沉默的必要性和在沉默中发声的意义。第五部分为结论,再次强调在沉默中发声的意义以及该小说的现实意义。
