美国华裔文学和文化的研究在中国已有将近二十年的时间,在这期间中国的华裔文学和文化的研究多围绕文化属性、跨文化交际及文学作品本身,对于美国华裔文学汉译研究却很少涉及。从某种角度来说,美国华裔文学翻译的滞后在某种程度影响华裔文学作品在中国的传播和研究。美国华裔文学作品,特别是美国出生的华裔作家创作的英文作品带有极其明显的双语、双文化特征。由于脱离文化固有的环境和土壤,华裔作者笔下的中国文化往往是零散的、想象的、拼贴的、变形的和扭曲的。以这样方式呈现的“中国文化”恰巧符合萨义德的“东方主义”,迎合了西方读者的阅读需求。因此,“中国故事”经常成为华裔作家的创作主题,他们期望以这些充满异域风情和族裔传统的故事在多元文化的美国社会为他们占得一席之地。本文以三位著名美国华裔女作家的代表作,同时也是美国华裔文学在各阶段的代表作为例,试图找寻一条处理类似“中国故事”的最佳方法。文章以后殖民理论为全文的理论基础,贯穿全文来分析原文和译文。在三部作品中找出它们共同谈及的一些“中国故事”,分别是传统“中国故事”和唐人街发生的“中国故事”。华裔女作家将传统“中国故事”大量移植在她们作品中,使作品充满浓郁异域风情,但将这些故事翻译成中文时却给中文译者带来了不小的困扰。而唐人街的“中国故事”则从另一个方面给中文译者以挑战,拼音和英语的双语文本,中式英语以及独特唐人街文化都使原文的还原显得异常困难。从这两个方面来分析翻译过程中所用的翻译策略,出现的偏差及其原因,并以此作为依据协助我们寻找处理这些“中国故事"更好的方法和策略,有助于处理华裔文学作品的翻译过程中出现的类似问题,并能在文化全球化的背景下,更好地实现跨文化交流。本文除引言和结语外,包括五章:引言扼要介绍了文章的主题和基本结构;第一章概述美国华裔文学特点,文化属性,三位美国华裔女作家简介及代表作品介绍和美国华裔文学在中国的翻译与接受;第二章分析后殖民翻译理论在美国华裔文学翻译中的运用;第三章着重传统“中国故事”的汉译研究。分别从传统思想、传统文学元素和迷信三方面来分析;第四章着重唐人街发生的“中国故事”的汉译研究。分别从汉语的插入、美国华裔对话中的英文和唐人街的美国华裔文化三方面进行分析;第五章则是在文化全球化的大背景下,探讨美国华裔文学及其翻译对跨文化交流的贡献,对翻译美国华裔文学的译者提出的要求。
