汉英小说翻译中的意义推移与逻辑连接 ——《围城》与其英译本的对比研究

论文摘要

语言是供人类交际的一个任意性的声音符号系统。作为人类重要交际手段之一的翻译,涉及了文本的形式和内容在语际间的忠实传递。本文选择研究翻译中的两个主要层面:意义推移和逻辑衔接。这是确保译文通顺流畅的关键因素。目前国内外在两个方面的论述很多,但是多数研究只罗列例子,很少有基于整本小说的语料库研究。本文随机选取了全部小说章节中的两章建立语料库,再进行统计分析,试图对前人的研究做出补充。同时,由于作者所选的语料都来自钱钟书的《围城》,这在一定程度上也确保了研究数据的连贯性,使得结论更富参考性。本文使用Leech对意义的分类作为理论框架。把翻译中意义的推移定义为:使用联想意义、结构意义等其他意义来代替概念意义。在逻辑衔接这部分,我们使用Halliday对于的理论模式来研究逻辑衔接在源语和目的语之间的转换。在上述理论框架上,本文提出假设:《围城》汉英翻译中的意义推移和逻辑衔接的转换存在一定规定,并且存在一定的原因来解释上述现象。全文以《围城》中随机抽样的语料库为基础,首先从“具体化/泛化”、“强化/弱化”、“增补/省略”、“替换”和“文学形象的中性化”这8类意义推移的方式,从词汇间考察汉英小说翻译中,意义推移的倾向和译者的翻译策略,探讨汉英小说的翻译中意义推移和逻辑连接的异同及其原因,从语言的形式层面和意义层面,分别考察汉译英过程中的翻译策略,为中文小说的英译中如何处理意义和逻辑连接手段提供经验和参考。然后,基于韩礼得和哈桑在《英语的衔接》中所构建的理论框架,文章探讨了了4种主要的逻辑衔接手段:添加,因果,转折和时间。由于语言体系和文化习俗的差异,汉英翻译中小句的之间的关系词并不一一对应,英语中往往会使用更多的连接词,加强句子间的语义连接关系。本文以实际的语料来考察汉英翻译间,逻辑连接的不同类型和翻译过程中的实际处理方法。经过统计和例证,本文得出如下结论:汉英翻译中,导致意义推移和逻辑衔接转换的因素有很多,其中最重要的是不同的文化、价值观、意识形态以及语言结构。
