高中英语教科书的性别歧视研究 ——以《牛津高中英语》为例

论文摘要

教科书是由国家教育管理机构认可的学校教育教学主要依据。教材文化代表着社会权威的知识、价值和观念系统,直接反映了社会文化尤其是主流意识形态。英语教科书是学习者学习英语语言知识,培养语言技能,接受社会规范、价值观的主要来源。英语教科书中的性别歧视是外语教学与研究的重要课题之一。本研究选取了《牛津高中英语》(学生用书)作为文本分析对象,该套教科书是一套最新的、由权威出版社出版、当下在江苏省最广泛使用的英语教科书。本文以批评语言学为理论框架,旨在从性别视角通过内容分析法、语言分析法和批评语篇微观分析法来研究《牛津高中英语》。研究结果发现这套教科书确实存在着性别歧视现象：(1)两性出现频次,尤其是两性在杰出人物出现频次上存在很不平衡的现象；(2)男性在职业数量和质量上均超过女性；(3)大量男性通用结构的使用,尽管教材中出现了一些非歧视语言的使用,但使用是及其有限的,并且还出现了前后使用不一致的情况；(4)两性并列词中大部分是男性在前,女性在后；(5)指代两性的词和称呼多强调男性的社会关系和女性的家庭关系；(6)分类、及物性中对不同过程类型的分析、情态中对直接引语和间接引语的分析以及转换中对名词化的分析都揭示了教材所隐含的性别歧视意识形态。本研究并非是对性别语言现象的简单描述,而旨在尝试用批评语篇分析法来透视教材中的性别歧视意识形态,唤醒人们对教材内容的批评意识,从而编写出性别平等的健康教材,促进学习者性别社会化的良性发展,从而实现真正的教育公平。
