美国国情咨文的人际意义研究

按照美国惯例,每年年初,现任总统都要在国会做年度报告,阐述政府的施政方针,被称为“国情咨文”。国情咨文是美国统治阶级的施政纲领,主要阐明美国总统每年面临的国内外情况,以及政府将要采取的政策措施。本文以系统功能语法为理论框架,分析“国情咨文”中的人际意义的主要实现形式。对于人际意义的研究,包括韩礼德的人际意义研究框架,即语气和情态;马丁的评价系统扩展了韩礼德的人际意义研究,此外,本文从人称系统的方面,进一步探索了‘国情咨文’在人称代词方面的选择。本文选用了2006-2010年的五篇‘国情咨文’为语料,通过对‘国情咨文’的语气,情态,评价系统及人称系统的研究分析人际意义是如何实现的,以及总统是如何运用人际意义来达到劝说和获得支持的目的的。作者主要从语气类型的角度来分析语气在“国情咨文”中是如何实现的。对于情态,本文分别从情态类型,情态取向和值三个方面分析了“国情咨文”中情态的人际意义。在评价系统分析方面,文章主要从情感,判定和鉴赏三个方面分析了态度系统的人际意义在“国情咨文”中的分布,并总结出态度和鉴赏多于情感的特征。在人称系统方面,作者分析了第一人称‘I’和‘we’,第二人称‘you’及第三人称‘they’的分布,从而总结出第一人称的使用频率高于第二、第三人称。本文运用系统功能语法理论分析“国情咨文”中人际意义,一方面有利于深化对“国情咨文”的理解;另一方面,可以为我国“政府工作报告”的汉英翻译提供借鉴与参考,从而使“政府工作报告”的英译同样具有原文的人际意义。
