译家与作家的统一 ——林语堂个案研究

论文摘要

本论文是对译家兼作家林语堂的个案研究。林语堂是我国文学史上著名的文学翻译家,双语作家和语言学家。他兼用中文和英语写作,蜚声海内外。然而由于众人皆知的原因,对林语堂的研究还没有达到应有的规模和深度,本文试图在前人研究的基础上,对林氏的写作和翻译理论实践进行研究,以期为林氏的研究添砖加瓦。林语堂用英文创作了大量名作,林语堂的作品中有相当一部分是从中文古籍翻译或编译改写而来,介绍了中国的哲学,习俗和民众的生活,林氏的许多作品中作中有译,译中有作,形成了独特的风格,真正体现了译家与作家的统一。为传播中国文化做出了杰出的贡献。本文立足于对译家及作家林语堂的研究,旨在分析林语堂翻译写作的特点与理论的核心。包括自译、编译、改写、诗歌的翻译及双语写作。因为历史以及文化的语境也应该与以考虑,所以作者引入了勒菲弗尔(Lefevere)的改写控制理论作为理论框架,从宏观的角度研究意识形态和赞助人是如何影响林语堂的翻译活动,以便更好地理解林语堂选择翻译材料的深层次原因。抱着东西融合的文化观,林语堂独树一帜的译介了中国优秀文学作品,为传播中国文化做出了杰出的贡献,他的成功值得我们深思。
