Contrastive Analysis of English Translations of Tang Poems from the Perspective of Functional Grammar

中国古典诗歌具有语言精练、思想深刻、意象丰富、感情强烈以及节奏和韵律鲜明的特征。由于中国古典诗歌内容广泛,本文作者把研究对象定为唐诗及其英译文。唐代是我国古典诗歌发展的全盛时期。唐诗作为我国优秀的文学遗产之一,受到全世界人民的喜爱。十九世纪晚期英国著名汉学家翟理斯是对唐诗进行英译的先驱。一百多年来,唐诗的英译文对中外文化的交流做出了杰出的贡献。中国是中国古典诗歌英译研究的集中地之一,其中翻译家许渊冲先生提出的“三美”翻译原则具有很强的指导性,该原则也得到广泛的应用。本文作者则试图从语言学的角度,应用系统功能语言学理论中的元功能理论,对一些唐诗及其英译文进行概念功能、人际功能和语篇功能三方面的分析。韩礼德于二十世纪中期开始探索并逐步发展了系统功能语言学。作为二十世纪最具影响力的语言学理论之一,系统功能语言学对与语言相关的学科产生了深远的影响。韩礼德的元功能理论贯穿整个系统功能语法,它也是系统功能语法中的核心理论之一。本文以三大元功能为理论指导,对唐诗及其英译文进行分析,目的是检验功能语言学在古诗翻译研究方面的可应用性和可操作性。同时,在具体的文本分析过程中,发现和总结一些中国古诗翻译规则,从而帮助译者和翻译研究者更好地理解原文和处理译文。本文以第三章、第四章和第五章为主体部分。作者在这三章中分别分析了唐诗及其译文的概念功能、人际功能和语篇功能。本文共选取十四首完整的唐诗和一些诗句及其他们的译文作为研究对象。为了使该研究具有说服力和可应用性,所选诗歌的形式(包括近体诗和古体诗)和风格内容各异。作者也注意了译文的多样性,选择来自国内外译者的译文。从文献看,已有一些学者运用元功能理论分析中国古典诗歌,但他们的分析一般局限于一首诗歌或仅分析一种功能,本文全面系统地对唐诗及其译文的三大元功能进行了分析,作者也得出一些对诗歌翻译有用的结论,希望能给译者和翻译研究者带来启示。
