英语委婉语及其在英语教学中的应用

论文摘要

作为英语语言中不可或缺的一部分,委婉语一直是语言研究者的兴趣所在。语言学者们从语言学、语用学、及跨文化等多个角度对其进行了研究。传统的委婉语研究多注重其语言本身的特点,而较少探讨其背后所隐藏的语用动因,对其在具体领域的应用研究则更鲜见。基于语言学者们的成就,本文意在探讨语用原则下委婉语在英语教学中的应用。本文开篇从委婉语的基本概念、基本特征、分类入手,探讨了委婉语的语用功能及语用动因:委婉语的使用是对合作原则的违反,对礼貌原则和面子原则的遵循。由于委婉语对语言教学起着极大的促进作用,本文重点论述了英语委婉语在英语教学中的应用,分析了影响学生委婉语知识输入的一些因素,探讨了教学中应用委婉语的重要意义,并提出一些可行的教学策略来引导学生掌握这一语言现象,在提高学生基本语言知识能力的基础上,进一步提高他们的跨文化交际能力。本文对英语专业和非英语专业的一些学生做了调查,调查涉及到面子问题、委婉语表达、以及中、英委婉语反映的文化认识等方面,并用调查得出的数据做了相应的分析。作者在文章中使用了问卷调查、定量分析以及对比等方法。本文旨在让人们认识委婉语在日常交际中的作用,更好地理解这种语言现象。学语言的人都清楚,交流是所有语言最基本的功能。成功的交流在日常的生活、工作中及其重要,委婉语恰好充当了交流过程的润滑剂,因为它首先考虑的是听话者的“面子需求”,并且将“礼貌原则”放在第一位。基于以上的原因,在二语教学中介绍委婉语是有实际意义的。
