从目的论角度论戏剧翻译 ——《茶馆》两英译本对比研究

论文摘要

戏剧是一种独特的语言艺术,它以舞台演出为目的,同时蕴涵着文化特质,具有高度的文学性,可像诗歌,小说一样用于阅读欣赏。由于戏剧的双重性,戏剧翻译必定要比其它文学类型的翻译有更多的困难。比如,为适应舞台演出而作的变通与语言文化信息的传递在戏剧翻译中便是一对典型的矛盾。根据德国功能学派的目的论,翻译目的决定译者将要采取的翻译方法和策略,以便创造出功能上充分的目的文本。在目的论中,目的文本好坏的评价标准不再是等值,而是译文的“充分性”,即译文达到翻译目的的程度。在戏剧翻译中,只有对翻译目的进行明确的界定,译者才能应付戏剧翻译中存在的矛盾,以采取适当的策略和方法进行剧本的翻译,同时在评价戏剧翻译质量时,也应该看译文的充分性,从而作出有针对性的客观的评价。在目的理论的框架下,本文分别从四个方面对英若诚和霍华翻译的话剧《茶馆》作了对比,通过对两译者翻译的目的及其相应的策略以及取得的效果进行分析,验证了目的论在戏剧翻译中的适用性。在各种翻译理论和翻译标准争鸣的今天,目的论虽然算不上完善,但仍然能够给译者,翻译学习者和翻译评价以理论指导。进一步研究和完善目的理论,更多的关注戏剧翻译,对翻译界的发展和戏剧文明的传播是不无裨益的。
